Move the whole board
Press Start game, then use an arrow key or a direction button. All tiles slide in that direction as far as they can. Two equal tiles that meet merge into one tile with their combined value.
A move that changes the board adds a new tile. A freshly merged tile does not merge again in the same move. Look at the whole row or column before sliding.
Keys, swipes, or visible buttons
Use the four arrow keys on a keyboard. On a touchscreen, swipe across the board or use the labeled direction buttons if you prefer a tap.
The board readout lists the current grid and score. The visible buttons provide the same four directions without needing a swipe gesture.
Leave room for the next move
Every empty cell gives you more ways to rearrange the board. Before chasing a large merge, check whether the smaller tiles can still move together.
Making 2048 opens the win message with an option to keep going. When no legal moves remain, use the game’s restart control to begin another board.
A board for this browser
The current board, score and best score save in this browser. Returning with the same browser and site can continue that board. New game starts a fresh board while keeping the best score.
If storage is blocked, the game can still run for the current visit. Clearing site data removes local records. There is no account or cloud synchronization.
