Why a matching tile can still be blocked
A tile under another tile cannot be selected. An uncovered tile is also blocked if both its left and right sides are closed. Find an open side as well as the matching symbol.
When several copies of the same tile are available, consider which pair uncovers more of the board. Removing the first visible pair is legal, but it may leave fewer choices for the next move.
One-player tile matching
Mahjong solitaire, sometimes spelled Mahjongg solitaire, is the task on this page. It is different from a four-player game with hands, discards and scoring rules. Here your goal is to clear matching pairs from a layout.
Open the Controls card for the free-tile reminder and expand the board when the upper layers are hard to distinguish. The reminder stays beside the board on a wide screen.
Quick controls and leaving the game
Two matching pictures are not enough: both tiles need to be free. Check the top layer and the left or right edge.
Choose Exit game in the toolbar to close the player. Reload opens a fresh game window and may end the current attempt. Reading a control card does not pause the game.
